What do business have to learn from forests. Our logo's story!
Our logo is a reflection of how we see the world of management systems, it is also a reflection of how we do our work, what we work for and what is our comittment.
Forests just like families and businesses share a lot of attributes and should be aligned. Let us explain, so you can also see why our logo is not only meaningful but wonderfully simple & beautiful such as forests.
What are forests besides a bunch of trees?
Forests are essential for life on earth. Three hundred million people worldwide live in forests and 1.6 billion depend on them for their livelihoods. Forests also provide habitat for a vast array of plants and animals, many of which are still undiscovered. They protect our watersheds. They inspire wonder and provide places for recreation. They supply the oxygen we need to survive. They provide the timber for products we use every day.
Forests are so much more than a collection of trees.
Forests are home to 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. These ecosystems are complex webs of organisms that include plants, animals, fungi and bacteria. Forests take many forms, depending on their latitude, local soil, rainfall and prevailing temperatures. Coniferous forests are dominated by cone-bearing trees, like pines and firs that can thrive in northern latitudes where these forests are often found. Many temperate forests house both coniferous and broad-leafed trees, such as oaks and elms, which can turn beautiful shades of orange, yellow and red in the fall.
The collection of trees work together to survive, grow, adapt and evolve as time passes by.
What are businesses ?
Businesses are tipically defined as: An organization or economic system where goods and services are exchanged for one another or for money. Every business requires some form of investment and enough customers to whom its output can be sold on a consistent basis in order to make a profit. Businesses can be privately owned, not-for-profit or state-owned.
Business sustainability, also known as corporate sustainability, is the management and coordination of environmental, social and financial demands and concerns to ensure responsible, ethical and ongoing success. In a broader context, social, environmental and economic demands are considered the three pillars of sustainability. Within the corporate world, they are sometimes referred to as the triple bottom line.
Businesses are a bunch of people interconnecting!
At better together we acknowledge that above all businesses are a bunch of people interconnecting amongst themselves and with the world. In this sense just like forests do, thanks to the contribution of every single tree, we believe that:
"Sustainability is a management system (business lifestyle) that helps people question what things add value to their lives & their business. By clearing the clutter from life & business path, we can all make room for the most important aspects of life & business: health, relationships, passion, growth, purpose, impact and contribution."
Just like there are many types of forests depending on where they are located, there are many flavors of sustainability: a startups sustainability lifestyle looks different from a corporate sustainability lifestyle. It depends on the people and on the type of business lifestyle.
Even though everyone embraces sustainability differently, each path leads to the same place: a business & a life with more time, more money, more freedom and more purpose to live & create a more meaningful life for all. When we say all we refer to everybody and the environment.
Just like forests we believe businesses should provide, protect, inspire, support and shelter the world.
Getting started is as simple as asking yourself one question:
How might your life be better if you owned and/or worked in a sustainability managed business?
